Badger Clark (Douglas Schools) Deployment Group Information Letter from the School Counselor:
September 11th, 2015
A small group experience is currently being planned for children who have a parent, parents, or loved ones away for an extended time due to deployment. The aim of this group is to help alleviate some of the stress and feelings of loss that these children are experiencing.
This PAT group (Parents Away Temporarily) will meet for about 20 minutes one time per week until parents are able to come home again. Group will give our children a place to talk about their feelings and to know they are not the only ones going through this experience.
The goals of our PAT group will include:
* To discuss facts about a parent being away temporarily
* To share, identify and accept one’s feelings about a parent being absent
* To recognize and cope with stressful situations
* To interact with and support other children who have an absent parent
Groups will be on-going until the parent/loved one returns home. Please contact me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or would like your child to join our group. Thank you for your cooperation and support of the counseling program at Badger Clark as we continue to work together for your child’s success.
