Advocacy and Support
South Dakota Parent Connection – Resources for families of children with disabilities.
South Dakota Advocacy Services – Protecting and advocating for the rights of South Dakotans with disabilities through legal, administrative, and other remedies.
Lifescape (formerly Children’s Care) – Helps children with special needs realize greater well-being, independence, and enjoyment in life.
The Autism Society of the Black Hills – Offers support groups, parent classes, and other services for families with children that are on the autism spectrum.
Birth to 3 Connections – Provides early intervention services that are designed to meet the needs of an infant or toddler (birth to 3 years of age) who has a developmental delay including services for the family to help them with the development of their child. The Pennington County office can be reached at (605) 394-6089.
Children’s Special Health Services – Health KiCC (Kids with Chronic Conditions) – Provides financial assistance for medical appointments, procedures, treatments, medications and travel reimbursement for children with certain chronic health conditions.
Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities – Their mission is to ensure that people with developmental disabilities have equal opportunities and receive the services and supports they need to live and work in South Dakota communities.
DakotaLink – Provides assistance with equipment sales, service, and training of assistance technology.
Care.com – Resources for special needs child care in the local area
Sittercity – Memberships fees are funded by the DoD. Sittercity helps you find local sitters and military subsidized child care providers.
South Dakota Parent Information and Resource Center – Provides information and training to effectively engage families in the educational success of children.
Financial Assistance and Health Insurance
TRICARE ECHO – Provides benefits for active duty family members with specific qualifying mental or physical conditions that are not available through the basic TRICARE program.
Independent Living Assistance
Western Resources for Independent Living – Provides a comprehensive range of services which make it possible for people with disabilities to live as independently as they choose in our community.
Black Hills Works – Serves more than 600 people with a variety of disabilities. Their vision is a community where all people are good neighbors, valued friends, productive workers, respected leaders, and caring volunteers. Their mission is to create a community where everyone participates to achieve a life of full potential.
Medical & Mental Health
Rapid City Regional Hospital – Provides a variety of pediatric specialty and subspecialty care services. It is the primary hospital for Western South Dakota, parts of Nebraska, Wyoming and North Dakota. The Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics, Newborn Nursery receive the majority of their equipment from donations to CMN. Other community education programs include, Don’t Thump Your Melon, Think First and scholarships to specialty camps.
